Can you use a UTH with newspaper substrate?
So I'm currently waiting for a shipment that contains a heat pad for my BP. But recently, I just thought, "Hmm, would the newspaper obstruct the heat?". Naturally, my brain led to another question like, "Will the newspaper burn if it gets too hot somehow?". So just wanted to ask if I can use newspaper with UTH. If not, what solution do you have? Should I change the substrate type?

A properly regulated UTH can be used with any substrate.
You will also take your temperature at the hottest place your animal can touch, this would be UNDER whatever substrate.

So newspaper is ok, thanks! And also, if I attach the heatpad under the tank, the probe should be between the tank floor and the newspaper?

Newspaper won't burn since your glass won't (ideally) be anything hotter than 95 or so. Lower than human body temp. Paper burns at 250F or so iirc.

The thermostat probe should be OUTSIDE the tank, between the bottom of the tank and the UTH.

Paper doesn't burn until 451 degrees Fahrenheit...your snake would be dead long before that! do a 5 second search next time.

Seeing how hundreds of snake keepers use a UTH and newspaper substrate, you are not going ot have a problem. Why anyone would use newspaper in humidity sucking enclosures like glass tanks is beyond me but fire dangers are the least of your worries.

I'm aware that the burn temp of paper is quite high, that's why I said "if it gets too hot *somehow*"
