    Here We Go Again
So if you’ve gone through the hognose threads you may be familiar with my hoggie not eating. She started eating at the end of May and has put on 80 grams since then! Here’s my concern: she just finished up a shed three days ago. Normally she refuses during her shedding cycle so that’s not an issue. However she did refuse two offerings. I thought it might be due to the fact I offered slightly bigger prey the other day but offered what she’s used to today. She refused. Now I know it may just be an off week or something but she has never refused a meal for me since she started eating unless she is in shed. The temps have gone down a bit in NY but her enclosure and temps haven’t changed. Should I be expecting a fast or is this just an awkward week? How should I got about offering her next meal? It’s been 18 days since her last meal which is the longest since she started eating for me. Thank you I’m advance for any help

My first question would be are you sure it is a female?

Has anything changed temps wise (cooler temps often mean cooler house and cooler enclosure)?

That’s what she was sold to me as (don’t have any experience with popping) and yes at night the temps in the room have gotten a little cooler. Is the tail method accurate for sex?

Can you take a picture of the tail for me as straight as possible (close up from right before the vent all the way to the end of the tail)?

And yes tail sexing is very accurate, I have never popped or probed a hognose ;)

Hey Deborah, here are two pictures I took a couple minutes ago. If they’re not good, please let me know and I’ll take new ones. As always, thank you for the help. :) I am not seeing the pictures on this post but they are in my gallery. I’ll work on getting them here

It is indeed a female, when it comes to feeding while I have very rarely observe issues with females it can still happen, I would not be worried at this size and if she persist you can always brumate her for the winter (she will be hungry when she emerge), or you can keep her as she is and wait but it could be a few wasted feeders in the meantime.

This is something I did a while ago to show the difference between males and females

Thanks for the confirmation and the advice Deborah! I’ll wait a few weeks and see how it plays out

I have a female who is refusing food. We're going on almost 30 days. She's active and hasn't lost any weight so I'm not too worried. They're picky little things at times.
