Sleeping out in the open, suddenly!
Viago has been using his hides pretty much all the time since I got him a month ago. Last night, I found him stretched out on a branch, and this morning till tonight, he's sleeping /on top/ of his cool hide. I checked to see if there was a poop in his hide, no such thing. The temps have remained constant as has humidity. 90 on hot side to 80 on cool side, 50-55% humidity.

Is this something to worry about? Or just him deciding to try out other napping spots?

He could be plotting your demise.

Nothing to worry about at all. Double check those hides for any waste just to be sure.

Yeah mine's done this sometimes because he bombed a hide but still wants to thermoregulate.

But if there's adequate cover in your enclosure and they're just chilling outside during nighttime hours that's just a comfortable BP who feels like it can "risk" being out of its hide to look around and enjoy its surroundings since it feels secure and non-threatened in its enclosure.

My 2 year old spends more time out in the open then she does in her hides. Even after I clean her enclosure out. They are funny like that.

This is good to hear! i'll double check for poop and urates. I did find urate in his preferred hide, since removing it he still hasn't gone back in. But I'm glad to know this isn't a concern :)

Some forget that the general behavior guidelines are subject to a bit of individuality. I grew up two rat snakes, same exact setups, same temps, same spot in the house, same everything. My female is out and about all the time. My male just pokes his head out to watch you fold laundry. They've since had their setups changed but it is important to remember that not every snake will fit into the standard guidelines.

Just a little update, there was indeed a big poop in his cool hide, after cleaning it he went right back in his hot hide. Don't know why the poop on the other side of the tank made him decide every hidey hole was contaminated, but, theres my answer :P

    Thanks again everyone!
