Handling & Getting to Know your BP
I'll admit, I was rather scared and nervous about owning a BP but something inside of me was fascinated enough to pull the trigger. It's been 2-3 months since my BP arrived and I've tried to follow all the rules of the site to properly acclimate my BP and let me just say I'm glad I did. It was a struggle to go 3 weeks w/o contact but it's really paying off now.

After the 3 week period, I was extremely worried about handling him. Worried that I may get bitten, etc.... I must of watched 100 videos on youtube and asked a million questions on here on the subject but it wasn't until that one thread where I truly became educated on reading the signs your BP puts out. That thread boosted my confidence so much that I'm now happily enjoying all the interactions w/ my BP and I can really tell a difference in his confidence and willingness to allow me to pick him up and hold him.

I have handled ball pythons hundreds of times, and FINALLY I got bit once on the hand by my grumpy juvenile "Snappy", and..... it didn't even hurt! It was like rubbing up against a blackberry bush. Not saying that getting bit is cool, but it was not a big deal, it is not like these things have huge fangs like a viper.

Anyway, that is great news! watch the handling videos, learn all you can, remain calm and gentle and it is fun to handle them.

Yup handling is great. I do it a couple times a week for extended durations and my noodles love it.

What'd funny is I was going to start a thread on this so I could have prior knowledge before attempting to handle Dewey.

If you don't mind sharing, what are some really great tips you've learned/ threads you recommend?

Hey...here's a thread that I started awhile ago which I found to very beneficial to understanding whether my BP was in strike mode vs defensive mode. As I said earlier, it really have me the confidence in handling him. I'm going to guess that you'll have the same success as myself and others who have purchased from Garrick. Good luck!

The first time I ever held a BP I was so amazed at how soft and pleasant it was. I hold my boy every day except after he's eaten or when he's shedding. He's a weirdy, he actually likes it and never gets stressed :eyepoppin but hey, I'm definitely not complaining! Quality noodle time is my favorite thing!

Yup! Nothing more than a little prick and not even any blood. I was stupid and stuck my hand in his cage to nudge the rat towards him and he reached out and got me. I didn't think he could reach that far which I why I even stuck my hand in his tub and he was lightening fast too! I didn't even have a chance to jump back.
