    Paper towels as substrate
When using paper towels as substrate, and a rhp as a source of heat. How many layers of paper towels do you recommend?

Thanks. I asked because with an uth its belly heat, as to an rhp its not, so im kind of lost.

No your post makes sence, because if your using an uth with two layers, i should be fine with either 1 or 2 since im not using an uth. Thanks, for your input..

Well, since the heat comes from above and radiates downward, I guess you should put enough paper down to soak up the messes well enough. Which depends on the snake, its size and age.

You don't have to worry about a thin or thick layer on top of a UTH.

So its really up to you how well you want messes soaked up ;)

Depends on the brand of paper towel too, I used one layer of Bounty or two layers of the generic stuff when I used paper towels. I actually use Prococo husk on the majority of the tub and leave a bare spot in the back over the heat source. Typically the ball python will make a mess in the back and crawl up on the coconut husk. When I check on him I'll spray down the bare bottom in the back with Chlorhexidine (diluted with water) and if the snake is 'soiled' I'll spray him down with water as he sits on the coconut husk bedding. It's been working good for me, I change out the coconut husk once a month now. I used to use paper towels when I had a mite problem, what a nightmare.

First, understand how "radiant heat" works. Then it will all make sense.

In the end, its a balance between the surface temp and the air temp.
