24/7 ambient heat options

What do you use and recommend?

I use an infrared light, humidity stays at a nice 50-60. Temp at 85-89 on warm. Is it bad for her at all?

for the coming winter, I am a buying an infrared space heater for my small snake room. Like this:

Currently a UTH and CHE on an adjustable pole and set to 83 degrees but I am in the process of migrating to a PVC enclosure and will use heat tape for the UTH and a RHP controlled by thermostat.

Red heat lamps are not bad but the light might not be excellent for a ball.

Sounds fine. Aim for 89 on warm, 79 on cool. I've had no issues keeping that with my 100w CHE.

I personally prefer a CHE on a thermostat. You leave it on 24/7, it allows for more humidity in the viv, and I think it heats the enclosure more evenly. That's just what I've had the best luck with :)

I’m getting a Spyder Robotics Herpstat HP version 2 thermostat to heat my reptile room to maintain ambient temperatures. (I have RHP and flexwatt for belly heat, basking... based on species.) My understanding is that an oil heater is the best/safest option? Which one? The room is 15x25. I also read somewhere that a digital heater will not restart if the Herpstat turns it off? That I need an oil heater with analog controls?

This is the oil heater I’ve used for 8 years and it’s great. It was only like $40 at Lowe’s. Analog controls is the way to go, let the herpstat take care of the rest [emoji6]

I got a Spyder Robotics Herpstat HP Ver 2 in March 2018 and have been using it to control a DeLonghi EW7707CB 1500 watt oil-filled heater in a very small (9 ft x 9.5 ft x 7 ft high) room. It works fine. Through trial and error, I determined that I only needed one of the two heater switches on (they are unhelpfully labelled MIN and MED, with both engaged being - you guessed it - MAX). So, I set the MIN switch permanently on and the controller knob to its highest level (6) and plugged the heater into the Herpstat.

I've got to say that the set-up sequences on the Herpstat were a real pain for me. They are definitely NOT intuitive. So if you later want to change the high-low temps or day/night cycle or whatever, just remember, keep the instruction manual at hand, or you may find yourself cussing. Also, a month or so ago, when I wanted to temporarily shut off the heater, I unplugged the Herpstat by mistake and lost all the settings. Of course, you can access the manual online easily enough.

Anyway, I've been a happy user of his Herpstat Pro thermostats for individual enclosures for over a decade and have been extremely satisfied with their performance (and the set-up and adjustments on THEM are totally intuitive lol). So I was happy to see him provide a controller for these oil-filled heaters. I've heard horror stories of those heaters failing while being used in herp rooms.
