Is my Helix DBS-1000 faulty?

The DBS-1000 I bought from Helix arrived in the mail the other day. I finished building my rack and plugged in the DBS. I set the temperature to 92*F but it doesn't seem to be going over room temperature. I set it to 105*F to see if that would help and it got a little bit warmer (felt like 80*F). I have the probe going the long way against one of the black heat tape stripes. I pushed the button and I'm not getting an error code. Can anyone help me? I don't have many more heat packs left. what is the room temperature?

About 75*F. It's not a snake room, that rack is in my room.

How are you measuring the temperature?

With my hands. I'm touching the tape.

This might be the problem. You will have to use the IF thermometer gun, or some other thermometer, other than your hands to get an accurate reading, to see if it is working effectively or not.

A temperature of 110*F would burn my hand. I set the Helix to 110*F and it wasn't even hot so no, I don't need an IR thermometer gun to tell me if the Helix is working correctly. I did say that I had one being shipped though. I'm wondering if other people had a similar problem with their Helix or would know how to fix it. I've already tried moving it to another outlet.

110 does not burn. I am a licensed plumber, and it is well known that 125 degrees Fahrenheit is the starting point of scalding or burning of the skin.

In a very short time period. Burns can occur at lower temperatures over longer periods of time.
Either way, 110 is noticeably warm for anyone without congenital analgesi. It's been hours and the substrate is still cold.

Your body temperature is around 98*F, so 100* or so would be hard for you to tell. Since a hot spot is only supposed to be around 90 or so, the only way to really tell what the temperature is would be with an IR temp gun. If you currently have it running with a snake in the rack, I would turn it off until you get your IR gun, just to be on the safe side, so you don't accidentally hurt your snake. Once your temp gun gets in, you can check it all over and see what temperature it's actually getting at, both above the substrate and directly over the heater.
