    Aspen Substrate
I'm switching over to aspen but am curious as to where people order their aspen from? I was just going to pick some up at petco/petsmart but it seemed pricey for a tiny bag. I have 3 enclosures that are roughly 3ft each. Also seeing shredded and smaller bits so do both work?

If y'all could send a link or info as to where you guys get a hefty amount of aspen that's worth it's price.

Are you dead set on Aspen ?

I hate the stuff ( and I'm not alone) it gets mouldy quickly, doesn't hold moisture , gets all over the house and carpets and worst of all it drains all the colour out of your snakes unless they are very dark coloured ones if course .

Dark coloured Orchid bark or ReptiBark is fabulous imho

It's quite humid in that room. Had them on reptichips and some coco husk substrate but that bumped it even higher of course. It also got everywhere so I'm not highly concerned with mess. I could use papertowels but I don't like the look plus they fit awkwardly in my boas tubs. I didn't think I would have to mist.
I really only have one really light colored snake atm, the other is medium. New one I'm planning on bringing home is def dark.

Any orchid bark would do? I do not mind substrate suggestions just not liking the coco husk and reptichip substrates.
I just don't want to buy a big bag and find out I can't use it.

Well I get the FINE sized orchid bark but all mine are either Albinos or brightly coloured and benefit from dark substrate . I keep my Mexican Black Kingsnake on very light coloured Beech chippings for the contrast .

I get big bales of compressed aspen from a local feed store.
