    Glass or Plexiglass for Enclosure?
I am about to build an enclosure for my ball python and was curious as to which material I should use for the sliding doors. What are the pros and cons of Glass vs Plexiglass and which one do you think is best? The Plexiglass would only be $10 more, so price isn't an issue for me. Some questions: Is there a transparency difference? (I would like good visibility for esthetics) Differences in durability? Does the Plexiglass warp?
Thanks for any help or advice you can give!

There's pros and cons to each....some are pretty obvious, others not so much.

I personally have glass sliding doors on all my cages.

    Glass Pros:

    Easy to clean
    Doesn't absorb anything
Better quality viewing of your animals

    Glass Cons:

You break it.....you just bought another one (be careful is all I can say, if you shatter a door at 11pm at night....what the hell are you going to do?)
Not easy to cut for custom sizes

    Plexi Pros:

Easy to work with and cut
    Practically unbreakable

    Plexi cons:

    Can discolor over time
    Any scratching is permanent
The newest plexi will always be the best looking plexi

I haven't heard of any warping issues, and I don't think you'll have any given that your material is thick enough. 3/16 or 1/4 thick are usually the standards. When I have used Plexi on projects not related to snakes in the past I've used 1/4" Lexan and it is SOME TOUGH s*** to say the least so I would check that out if you want to go with the Plexi route. I can't see anyone being able to break that stuff.

Glass does not scratch easy at all, will not warp but can break and is less efficient in retaining heat.

Acrylic or plexi glass is easier to cut and shape (drilling holes can be a challenge) and can retain heat slightly better depending on thickness but can scratch, yellow, and warp depending on the quality.

If you are not rough on the acrylic it won't be an issue. I have done a lot with both salt water and fresh water aquariums and never had issues with acrylic. In higher heat and humidity situations it can warp but you won't get that in a snake enclosure unless you put a CHE on top of acrylic.

Don't skimp on acrylic and it won't have clarity issues, fade or yellow or scratch. If you go cheap you well get what you pay for. Acrylic is no less durable than glass if treated with care.
