Kind of helps I'm wondering what the average weight is as mine is a year old now and has been feeding on rat fuzzies for past couple of month and he's only weighing at 260g this week he's never dropped in weight but he has always been slowley putting on weight

I know males and females grow at different rates but my female is 900g at a year old. But I think females are supposed to get bigger than males.

Yellow was 500g+ at a year of age.

there is no "average" that i know of, but at a year old i'd expect a male to at least be on weanlings. at 260g your snake should be eating rat pups, or a meal at least twice that size. you're underfeeding him.

Weight does not matter and there are too many factors such as weight out of the egg, how fast the animal was started, prey size, feeding frequency, skip meals, fast etc.

You need to look at the following, whether your animal is fed equality or not and whether the overall body shape (proportions) look right or not.

Comparing one animal to another does not help.

Last weigh in for my yearling male (he's actually probably a bit more than a year) was 426 grams. I consider him a bit of a slow grower though.

Rat fuzzies are too small for a 260 gram ball, he should be eating adult mice or rat weanlings. That chart that tttaylorrr posted is a great reference piece :)

Thanks for the reply's everyone and thanks trisnake I'll start feeding rat weanlings on his next feed I feed him every weekend and he has eaten every time apart from about 3 month ago when he went on a hunger strike for 3 week during shedding I was told at my local pat shop that rat fuzzies where fine for him at his weight with him always taking every feed and always withing the first 5 seconds of offering him his meal could suggest he's always that little bit more hungry I will start on rat weanings this weekend and let you know how it goes... seams to me that everyone has different opinions when it comes down to Ball Pythons either that or its that every BP is a bit different to the next

Theyre all different, just like us humans. Not everyone hits puberty or starts to wrinkle at the same age or weight lol. ;)

In regards to feeding him, the gram weight of the prey in reference to the gram weight of the snake is the best thing to look at until they reach about 500+ grams (in my opinion). I feed 15% of the body weight until that age, at which time I start feeding based on width of the widest part of the body. 15% of your snakes body weight (at 260 grams) would be 39 grams, average weight of a rat weanling. Some people feed 10% of the body weight and that works fine too, I just personally feel it is a bit on the smaller side for meals.

And pet shops do tend to underfeed their balls and boas in particular, because they follow the same feeding guidelines for colubrids as they do for constrictor snakes. A rat fuzzy would be perfect for a corn or king that's 260 grams but much too little for a ball python or boa of the same gram weight.
