    Herpstat VS VE
So It's time to move my white lipped python from his current 40 quart tub to my AP T8 that's been collecting dust. I am finally able to purchase a RHP and a proportional thermostat to heat his cage. I am trying to figure out which is best based on experience from others. I have never used either. I have been looking at the VE-200 and Herpstat 1 basic.

I know the consensus is that herpstat is the best. I've never used one. I have many VE models and love them. Never had an issue and they are more reasonably priced that the herpstats.

I have VE-300 with a VE-100 hooked to it as a back up. Not sure if having a backup is necessary but I like to have that added security with any thermostat I use.

Best of luck to you with your decision. I believe both are great thermostats.

We have both Herpstats and VE units. I prefer the Herpstats. Biggest reason is the availability of 2, 4, and now 6 control channels. Nothing wrong with the VEs, we have several in use and I don't see any need to replace them.

I have both. I MUCH prefer the look of the VE. The chunky Herpstat just looks ugly to me, and I also dislike the bright blue light.

That said, my last VE was not well made. It has worked fine for the past year, but one of the two plug-ins at the back was fitted at an angle, and it is VERY hard to pull the plug in and out. I can see the plastic bend as I do it. That VE should never have passed QC. I kept only because it does work (so far), and I HATE returning things.

That is the last VE for me. My future purchases will be Herpstats.

I currently have 2 VE, one on the snake enclosures and one on the incubator. The only issue i have had is the detault telp cannot be adjusted on my models. 87 was 1 degree lower than what i needed it at for my incubator so when we had a power surge it reset and my incubator dropped a degree.

I have 5 VE200s running great, never had a problem.
BTW mine always stay at the set temperature after a power outage.....

Herpstats are overall better but VE's are fine and good enough. I have 1 VE 300 X2 and 4 VE 200's and they all have been working fine for me. I did recently get a herpstat2 off a buddy that I plan on using for my incubator though.
