    Charred smell...?
So, I got a bunch of branches from outside yesterday, cleaned them off, then threw them in the oven at 200 degrees for two hours, then boosted it up to 300 for 10 minutes and finished.

Branches cooled and look great... buuut they smell slightly like burnt wood. :(

It's not incredibly pungent but it's made my closet where I sat them until my new enclosure comes in 1-2 weeks smell.

Is there any way to rid them of the smell, or do i have to redo it somehow.

I'd prefer to use the branches still because I really like the ones I chose but I mean if I have to change them for the health of my python I will.

    Suggestions?

Throw them back in the dishwasher and let air dry.

Next time do this: freezer for a few days then let warm to room temperature then put in dishwasher under sanitize with heated dry (use top shelf). No more burnt wood by trying to bake them.

I would try to air them out for a while and hope the smell fades prior to the enclosure arriving. If not, try a plan B and cross that bridge then...
