Mass of questions

Just thought this should go here rather than like five threads.

First, I have kept balls before, I also used to breed and sell Kenyans locally. I was just starting into breeding BPs (buying youngsters) and Simone stole all my animals. Never recovered them, and just now years later getting started again. I have decided BPs would be best, for now. I did miss them!

So I am supposed to pick up two females, a three year old fire and a two year old normal. No weights, these where pets. Is 150$ a good price? She is either the cleanest pastel I have seen or a fire, no question about that!

Now I looked at the frugal herpers rack, would there be one that would work for 41 quart tubs? They don't even need cut, I use lids.

I'd say $75 a snake is a nice price for any morph.

if they're healthy and at breeding size, sure. i also think u might be able to negotiate a little better price.

haven't heard of Frugal Herpers Rack so i looked it up. this one?: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...r-s-Snake-Rack it's a DIY rack. i'm sure u can find a tiered shelving unit that can fit the dimensions of a 41quart tub. it's a DIY project and the same principals would apply.

I will try to talk him down a bit, just because it's Craigslist. So at that age, feeding on small rats at least weekly they are likely breeding size? Cool beans, they may go this year!

I do have a normal male I've had a while, a normal that was eaten up by a rat I rescued. He will be okay for my first year!

Please don't intentionally make normals unless you intend to give them away.

May I ask why? I do have several people who would want a snake as a pet. I mean, I know there are tonns of morons out there but there are also good homes, if you put in the work to find them.

It's a math thing. A baby normal is worth 5 or 10 dollars. Costs about a buck a week to feed one. So if i read your stuff right, you are going to breed a normal to a normal and a fire. Let's say you get a total of 12 eggs. About 3 are going to be fires. That leaves you 9 normals x best case you sell them in 3 feedings. You have now spent 27 dollars feeding normals plus the time and equipment to produce them. There is about zero demand for normals so odds are that you keep them past the three feedings. Unless you have supers or ALS to breed to normals it just is not worth it. Dont' get me wrong, a normal is just as good a pet as a $3000 animal. My best "pet" is a huge female normal. Right now out of the 50 animals in my permanent collection and the 50+ I produced this year only three are normals. I will keep normal females, but only because I have stuff to breed to them that produces zero normals.

There is just incredibly little demand for normals in a market flooded with morphs. Even beginning hobbyists frequently are looking for a morph over normals at this point. Basically just be prepared to care for them for a fairly long while and expect some time to find homes for them if you make a clutch of all normals.
