Seemingly starving snake !!
My male ball python, Khaa is ravenous. He wants to eat, eat and eat some more. He eats a rat in between the size of a small and a medium. I get the rat a week before he is supposed to eat and fatten it up to where its almost to medium size but not quite. I feed him, he's happy for 4 days and then he's hungry again, striking at anything warm and moving.
It is getting cold where I live and he fasts throughout the winter months, could he just be trying to put weight on for that??
Any help is appreciated!!!

How big is he? He may need larger prey. If you cannot see a noticeable lump in him after feeding he needs more

And bigger food?! I've never heard of a male BP being fed more than a small, a medium looks waay too big for him.
Here's most recent picture of Khaa and a picture of the size rat he eats:

The rat leaves a slight bump and it doesn't take him long to eat it either.
you need to get a weight on him. weight is a key method to indicate health as well we helping choose the right size feeders.
you are correct: a typical adult male beep won't ever need a medium rat. Yellow takes small rats and they don't really leave a bump in him anymore either, though he doesn't roam and act like he's starving 5 days later.
how often do you feed him?
Re: Seemingly starving snake !!
We have 3 out of 8 males who take medium rats. Our other 5 are not near full grown. We also feed once a week.

Is the problem that I'm not feeding him often enough??
it's possible. instead of upping the prey size, try a 7 day schedule.
