Psycho Mouse

I picked up two mice last week for Kashmire, both adults, both very handleable. Last night, the one that is slated for dinner on Saturday started acting like a hopper, frantically trying to escape his Kritter Keeper (I clean it out every other day, fresh food each day) and when I took him out to hold him briefly, the little bugger bit me.

Do you think I have an "ornery" mouse, or could there be something wrong with him, and I should take advantage of the pet store's live trade in policy and get a different one for him. If there's any risk of this mouse being sick and possibly passing something on to Kash, I don't want to feed it to him.

Prior to last night, he's been a very content mouse, very gentle and mostly sleeps.

Maybe he knows his days are numbered.

I'm actually surprised it ever let you handle it. The mice we get come out of a big feeder tank and haven't heard of the "don't bite the hand that feeds you" rule. Most of the ones we get are very skittish and will bite at the first opportunity.

Sounds like a normal mouse to me. Stupid, nasty things.

I was actually holding both of them in my hands with tails firmly held while the girl went to get the paperbags (triple bagged) to put them into. No attempt to bite. Both let me hold them and rub them when I moved them into the Kritter Keeper. Even though they are prey, I still try to treat all my animals kindly and with respect (while not getting attached! LOL)
