Just fed my MBK her first fuzzy.

The snake is about 2 months old, 20 grams.

She was taking 2 pinkies at feed time, so now I tried the fuzzy. She took it with no problem. But, to be honest, the fuzzy looked, to me, to be too big for her. Size looked right if you look at the snake's thickest part, though large compared to the snake's mouth that its gotta go in. But, I'm no expert. She took it no problem, and almost 30 minutes later she's still chugging it down... still hasn't completely swallowed it. Its moving, but very slowly.

So, question... if the prey were too large, would the snake still try to swallow it? Or, do they somehow know what they can and can't swallow?

What sakes can get down can be surprising . From the two separate jaw bones being able to separate to the way the skin expands to accommodate a large meal is impressive. However, just because they can get it down doesn't mean they should.

Your girl will be fine, just give her time to digest. Her meal wasn't too big, but still a little bigger than ideal. If you have any pinkies left I would feed those off and then switch. I would try to aim for 25-30 grams and then switch.

I've only had one snake spit out food that was too large. I think your MBK should be fine. It's usually pretty smooth sailing if they make it past the shoulders of the prey item.

If you're worried and using F/T crush the skull. I have to do that with my florida king at work.
