    Is he stressed?
Hi! So the other night, (2 days ago I think) I fed Geno at around 8:00pm and in the middle of the night there was a bad storm and the power went out. I was freaking out... I didn't really know what to do. I've only had Geno for about 2 1/2 weeks and he's my first snake... so I was scared for him. What I did was like 20 mins into the power being out I took him out very carefully and put him right by me under the blankets. I had him out for like half an hour and put him back. I had a thread about this whole thing, thank you SO much to the people who replied. But I was really tired so I was going to take a 45 min nap. I slept though my alarm :/ But I just woke up like 30 mins later. I still had no idea what to do... so after like 10 mins of just kinda freaking out, I decided to make him a hot water bottle. But before I did the power came back :)

Anyways, the other day I had him out and we were just chilling and when I went to touch him he striked at me! And, when I went to change his water today, when I was picking up the water dish, he had his neck like we was about to strike, and was following my hand. I was wondering if I stressed him out by having him out that night? Or if there's a reason he's acting like this? Thank you!

Oh and I forgot to add, he's just been pretty jumpy :( I don't want him to be scared of me. He used to just let me pet him and stuff but yesterday he was really jumpy and tense. Thanks again.

Always touch from behind his head never in front. Check to make sure your husbandry is on point. I would leave him alone for up to 5 days to let him chill. How old is he?

Yes, I always try to pick him up from behind. And he's one year old. My temps and humidity are pretty good if thats what you meant :)

Ok. He sounds stressed. Wait a week then start trying again.

Eep! Ok. Thank you! Is he stressed because of that night..? Or would you know why..? He's a very sweet and curious snake.

Did you allow a week when you first got him to let him chill for a little bit?

It's generally not recommended to handle a bp more than 2 or 3 times per week as it can cause stress (and only for brief periods) and to leave them be for a week or two after you get them so they can acclimate. Too much activity is stressful and can cause food refusal and defensive behavior. Your bp is new to you, in a new home he's adjusting to and then he was handled a few times because the power was out. When your snake strikes at you it's because he doesn't feel safe (unless it's feeding time, which is another story).

Just let him chill, don't handle him for a week or so and make sure the husbandry is on point, and he'll be just fine.

Did I read a year old and mice? He should be on rats no problem. BP's aren't a huge "to be handled" species. They like their peace. I handle maybe once a week. My newest girl is maybe once every couple weeks.
