First time jitters - it's finally happening!
Hoo boy! So my AP cage is arriving this Friday and it looks like I'll be getting my first ball python within the next 2 weeks depending how well the set up goes. I'm hoping I can get the temps/humidity spot on before snake day. I believe making sure temps are stable for a week should be good for a green light?

I just can't believe it's really going to happen! I really thought I wouldnt be able to get my BP for another year or two, but here we are! I admit I'm a little nervous despite the months of research I've done, but this forum has helped me greatly so I want to give a huge thanks to everyone who has advised and shared their wisdom with me!

Was anyone else nervous when they got their first snake?

YES! i'll never forget opening the box and seeing lil' Yellow's face looking back at me. he was sooooo small!!! the first week was so hard not messing with him yet constantly checking the enclosure temps and looking for urine/poop. i'd stay awake because i couldn't sleep knowing he'd come out and i'd be able to see him.
waiting for FedEx to drop off Spaghetti was basically like Christmas morning; just waiting to tear into the package to see. i was more prepared that time around.

5-7 days dialed in is a green light.
i'm so excited for you!!! let us know if you have any questions with the AP setup, but they're very simple to put together!

Haha I'm probably going to stay up late just to see if I can catch him exploring! On snake day I'll be pacing about the door eagerly waiting for the FedEx truck to arrive, or heck even just waiting outside sitting by the door. They usually require a signature right?

Thanks for the well wishes! I'll definitely ask if I run into any trouble with the AP setup but hopefully all will go smoothly :p

Yikes! That really sucks, they could have at least rang the bell or knock :/ I seriously don't get why they couldn't spare a second to do so? I guess that will be extra reason for me to hang around the door lol

Congratulations on the new critter! Good job getting your husbandry on point before moving your BP in. I bought my first snake from a pet store on a whim but the rest of my snakes I bought online. I was nervous the first time or two but after that I was comfortable with the routine. I always get excited for the delivery and unboxing though. I'm usually already outside or peering through the window when FedEx arrives. Like Taylor, I also had one driver leave the package outside my door without knocking so be aware. When they get it right though, FedEx knocking on the door is music to my ears. Never gets old. :)

    Thank you! I'm beyond excited!

Ack what's with the FedEx drivers not ringing/knocking??? I'll definitely be on alert then! I swear I think I'll finally understand how dogs feel whenever they get super hyped over door bells lol

Congrats on getting your first snake. Waiting for that package is the best - I was so excited also. I am getting my 4th snake here pretty soon and am already excited with getting all the equipment up and running.

Getting a new snake never gets old.

Best of luck to you. Be sure to update us once he/she arrives.

Congratulations! I was nervous when I got my snake. I think you will be better off since you will have an AP cage with a RHP instead of heat lamps. Should just need to setup the herpstat and make small adjustments. Make sure to get a couple pictures of Tapioca for us before putting him away to hide for a week! =P lol
