Hides are generally offered to ball pythons in a rack system. Some choose not to use them (i.e. hide under substrate instead), but they should still be offered a hide.

Get a hide that is small enough :) hides can be made of cheap simple items around the house....I use cool whip or butter tubs with a hole cut in it....you can also you small colored rubbermaid tubs of the appropriate size (it will cost you $1.00). Also, to reduce stress, you can crumble up newspaper into balls and put it in the enclosure. This will give the bp some added security, but an appropriate sized hide will work the best.

Ideal you should have a hide that is big enough for the ball python to touch all sides when curled up.

wash it out really well and cut a hole that is slightly larger than the girth of the bp in the side.....instant free hide :) ....ha ha.... i have about 10 butter tubs laying around...I have my friends and family saving them for me :)

I've heard that you can use the bottoms of clay flowering pots (not the pots themselves, but the clay "water catcher" (I don't kow what to call it)). Take a hammer and knock out a piece on the side, sand the rough edges with sandpaper and then put it in upside down. Snake feels nice and cozy!
