Left rat out overnight. Safe to refreeze?
So basically as the title says. I fell asleep as my rat was thawing out and wasn't able to feed. Is it safe to refreeze and repeat or just get a new rat and feed tonight?

I wouldnt refreeze. And me personally, I wouldnt risk feeding it if it's been sitting out the night. Not worth the risk over a $5 rat.

    Hi,

Re-using it carries the risk of it exploding when struck or being far enough along in decomposition that it causes a regurge.

I would use your sense of smell to be your guide in the latter. But for the cost of a rat I generally wouldn't risk either of those two.

On one hand, I've had a snake eat a decomposing, overnighter rat sometime in the past with no ill effect.
However, I was also an idiot back then and wouldn't risk it now. Throw it to some dermestid beetles and sell the skull to some hippie on Etsy to make a necklace out of it so you can go buy another rat.

Overnight is too long, rot has set in, even if you don't smell it.

I personally have never re-freezed a rat. The vast majority here has also said the same, so I wouldn't refreeze.:gj: I wish you the best of luck with your reptiles!:D

I will re-freeze once if the rat was only thawed to room temperature, but not if it was heated in any way. I definitely wouldn't re-freeze if it has been sitting out in a 90 degree enclosure all night...

I'd throw it away a couple bucks isn't worth it
