Trade!

Me and a Colombian boa breeder agreed to trade my BP for a baby B.C.I,it is CBB,and eats regularly.I've been researching them for a year now,and I think I'm ready.I've decided to get out of BPs altogether,and get into boas or other pythons.I'm going to cancel that meeting with the BP breeder.I've got $65 to start saving up from to get a BRB or JCP.I probably won't get one until my birthday.Then I'll start saving for a 4' cage and a 6' cage for the B.C.I. just incase he's a female.(I'd like it if it was a he,so I can name it Pedro.)I'll get some pics around Friday.Please wish me luck.

Does anyone think I'm jumping the gun with a B.C.I?

From most of the care sheet i read about BCI, they tend to be very docile creature and categorized as a beginner snake.

But like any other large pythons, you need to realize if you are prepared to keep a 7 - 10 foot snake. At full length, their weight and girth can be overwhelming and their diet includes small rabbits.

I have handled a sub adult bci and they are quite friendly and non-shy snake i had ever handled.

Do all the research and ask as many questions as you can. Too much knowledge wont hurt and get a male as they are much smaller than female.

A captive-bred BCI is a good snake if you have expierence with other smaler species. I think it was a great choice

BCI's are great snakes. If handled on a regular basis they become very tame and are friendly anyways. I would suggest starting off with a male because they don't get as big as females. I went from a BP to a BCI after sometime and have had no problems. But I'd saw my own hands off before selling Hades :) Good luck!

Boas (bci's or bcc's) are not good beginner snakes, I dont care what books and others who have not had any experience with an adult one say. However, they are great additions to a collection for those who are sure they can handle them. Boas in general tend to be very different than bp's in personality and everything. Yes, it is true they tend to be docile and not so shy..but when it comes to feeding, they are aggressive feeders.I feel that as long as you are careful and take precautions at feeding time, you will do fine. Also, young ones can be a bit nippy sometimes and do sometimes hiss, however, they do grow out of it rather quick once you gain their trust and with regular handling. I feed mine out of his enclosure even though he is handled daily because I do not want any chance of him thinking it is feeding time in anywhere other than his feeding bin. He is use to this , and does well, I have not ever had any feeding errors resulting in getting bitten in the time I have had him. After he eats, I leave him in his feeding bin for a good 20 minutes, sometimes longer to let him get out of feed mode. However, this may not work unless you have access to something or a tub of some sort to feed in once the boa is an adult. Decide what you want to do with it now, so when it is older you will have some sort of plan worked out as to where you plan on feeding this animal later. I have worked with bci's and bcc's, the bci's are definately more manageable in the long run.. I chose to stay with the bci's because they do not tend to get the sizes a bcc can get to. I also have bp's, out of my snake collection, even though the bp's came before the boa, I still prefer my boa by far, mainly how their personalities are. They tend to be pretty tolerant.
