My ball python only stays in his warm side

I got a ball python (Sid) a little while ago and from the first time he came home with me he only stays on his hot side,the only time he goes to the cold side is during the night when he is exploring but goes back to the hot side before long is this normal or is something wrong with his hide on the cool side :confusd:

My female does the same, but my male will go back and forth

How are you heating the enclosure?
Is your heat regulated by thermostat?
What are your temps?
How are you measuring temps? Where are you measuring?
What are you providing for hides? and where?

The heating is from a bulb that is screwed into the ceiling of Viv this is controlled by a thermostat
Temperature is 84 during the day and 74 during the night
