anyone have BPs that wont use hides?
Seems odd to me but I recently got this adult male and he wont use the hides but sits on top them.
He is a big boy and wont fit in the reptile basics large hide without it popping up off the ground(he did use it the first day for about an hour).Anyway I though it must be too small thats why he wouldnt use it..
So I got a kitty litter pan and made a hide for him and he still wont use it. He just lays all out in the open. Very friendly guy, so must have been handled alot by the previous owner. He was in a overheated 20 gallon before with two juvenile bps, which he was sitting on and squishing..Now he has a t8 all to himself but he is near the 4ft mark easy.I probed him myself and he is no doubt a male just a big one.

At least 90% of my collection does not even have hides. They usually stop using them at about a year old. I have an "ideal" environment though. Good humidity and an ambient temp between 84 and 88. I have a couple that have to have them or they do not eat.

I don't use hides too much since I switched to racks, but I have one female who used to always sit on top of her hides instead of going inside of them.

100% of my adults do not, hatchlings 95% do not.

I got one that seems to not like hides. He always shoves it out of the way and lays on top of where the UTH is. Next day I move it back, and he shoves it back out of his way.

Mine used to always be in his hide, but he likes to be out of it more often now

Mine love his hides, but he's under a year old so that could change! When I put him back in his cage and I always put his head near the opening of one of his hides and he immediately goes in, and I think that helped him realize where they were in his cage.

My 600g girl likes to flip her current hide and lays behind it, can't take it out or she won't eat. So we just let her do her thing really haha.

Tried to quote deb and Jordan but didn't do what I thought it would,,,,

Those of you that don't use hides have your snakes in racks tho correct?? Mine are all in personally built plexiglass tanks in a "bookshelf" setup I made myself, they all use their hides. Only time they are out is pretty much when I'm thawing rats in the room and they start cruising around looking for food.

all of my hatchlings have hides and use them but my sub adults have hides and typically about 1/2 of them lay beside or in front of the hide..kinda weird IMO
