Ball Python Tank - Help please!

Hi, I just recently became a bp mom. I started with a 20 gallon (Long) tank and been using 75W bulbs. I decided to get creative and add another level to the tank so my bp can have room to climb, hang, etc. That made the tank 2 ft high, what wattage bulbs should I use now in order for heat and humidity to be just right towards the bottom of the tank? (and all over) :) I would really appreciate the help.

Wattage is going to be determined by the amount of heat you need to generate. Humidity is hard to keep correct using bulbs in a tank. I have never heard of a muti-level tank setup for a BP. Please read the sticky thread here on a tank setup. Be aware that ball pythons are mostly terrestrial snakes. Boys will climb a little, but it would be very rare for an adult girl. A lot of activity, especially during the day for a ball often times points to a husbandry problem.

Welcome and congrats on your first snake. You came to a great place to learn from some great people.

I like your ingenuity, however, I would focus on getting the basics down first. Study the stickies on this forum about husbandry and develop your setup to follow the stickies.

Unfortunately for your enclosure addition, BPs are terrestrial animals who rarely climb. For a great example of this, try setting your snake on the back of a dining room chair with spindles to climb on or something similar. Watch how quickly your snakes starts climbing down, they prefer to be safe and sound on the ground.

Also, that enclosure would be very difficult to maintain proper temps and humidity.
Again, I recommend looking over the basic husbandry info on this forum and keeping it simple. BPs can be finicky, and sticking to the basics is a good idea, especially for beginners.
