    might be dumb ????
i notice a lot of times when i have my bp in my hand that she really tightens her grip on me. i guess i would consider it way more than she needs to hang on to my hand. is this normal behaviour? or just a sign of really good muscle and a healthy snake.

Mine don't really do that, so I'm not sure. I guess you could take it as a good sign of muscle tone, because a sick snake would be more limp. Maybe she is not feeling secure, and is just holding on tight?

I would go with the feeling secure suggestion. If we where all smaller creatures and where being handled several feet above the ground by something we didn't entirely trust or know we could trust we would hang tight as well :P

Yep makes sense. Snakes don't think "oh Joanna won't drop me, I don't really need to hang on". They just react instinctively to the lift and movements of handling by hanging on. I mean really we are sorta "flying" them through space and for a ground dwelling creature, that's just gotta be wierd!

I notice with my two they will relax more once we are settled on the couch, floor, whatever and wander off to explore. Well except Baby who is a weenie snake and insists on coming back to slither on me if anything "new" happens...I think I'm Baby's human hide LOL.

When he starts squeezing I would bet that it is just parts of the snake (a little here and little there, but consistant pressure? Almost feels like the BP is trying to give you a massage?) This is normal behavoir I have witnessed in almost every BP that is tolerant of handleing, in my opinion this is nothing to worry about sounds like a healthy normal BP...

Hey new2bp I forgot to mention in my other post about the heading on your thread. Please don't ever think your questions are "dumb" okay. It's dumb only to not ask or enquire about your new pet or think you know everything there is to know. I doubt if I care for these snakes for the rest of my life, I'll ever stop wondering or wanting to know more about some aspects of their husbandry or life cycle or whatever.

You just keep on asking. Every piece of information, big or small, benefits your snake and you as it's keeper. :)

The squeezing to hang on is perfectly normal (and sometimes rather annoying :P) Had to clean Issa's cage today (He made this gigantic poo after holding it for a month) and he decided to hang on really tight to my arm. So I stood there for about 5 minutes, during which he slowly decided it was time to back down on the the floor.
