Worth $100 dollars? First Hognose
Hey guys! I'm panning to buy my first hognose. I contacted a few breeders and this is what I found that I liked.
red het lavender ($100 + $30 shipping) from JMG Reptiles:

Normal 66% het lavender ($125 + $50 shipping) from Ginger Bred Hogs. I might talk him down to $100 possibly!

I have no idea if these are good deals. There were a couple hognoses and my last reptile show but there were only 3 total. I feel like this is my best bet, but maybe I should wait?

If you're not breeding you're paying extra money for hets. I don't follow the market for hogs but I got a male het albino last year for $50. Awesome little guy full of personality

Yup, forgot to mention that about hets.
And yeah, these little guys have TONS of personality!

If you intend in breeding the make is a really good deal considering it is het lavender, the female I would pass, if your intent is to breed get a 100% female.
Poss Hets can be fun to prove but I would only ever consider doing so wit a visual male if I were you.
And if you are looking for pet there is not reason to pay extra for something you have no use for (hets), you can find a male for $50 and a female for $75

Good thinking! They are awesome little snakes, but I think it's a good idea to wait and handle a few. Try to handle a juvenile and an adult if possible. Something tells me after handling a hognose you'll be bringing a hognose home.
If your mind is set on a morph of some sort, yeah, they can get pricey, but a normal is very affordable. I personally think you can't go wrong either way. You should be able to find what you're looking for at an expo though.
Keep us posted!

JMG produces quality hognoses and is a great a guy. A hognose is going to be around for more than a decade as long as they are healthy so when I look at a snake, I don't let the price deter me unless it's something out of my budget because that snake is going to be with me for a long time. If it's an investment, that's a long term investment. If you like what you've found then go for it. Hognoses are hatching right now though so you may see more at the next few reptile shows.
