Jumpy BP

hey y'all!
I just have a question.
My bp just got his complete tank set up, but my issues is that I have NEVER seen him in a ball, like my roommate BP and he's really jumpy. is that a normal behavior until he gets used to the new tank? Or maybe something is wrong with him? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...31235bf377.jpg

I would say if you just moved him in there and he's *active* ie exploring and sniffing around he's just getting used to it. If he's *jumpy* towards you that probably means he's getting used to you. (I would recommend giving him some time and not touching or disturbing him for a few days) and see if he calms down

It's hard to say as I don't know exactly what you mean by "jumpy". Snakes, particularly ball pythons, will quickly retract their heads into their coils if they are suddenly startled. This happens from time to time with almost all specimens. Unless it is a constant thing, I wouldn't worry much about it.

As for the "my ball python isn't in a ball", I would also not worry about it. The "ball" is a defensive posture and some individuals are more opt to show it than others. Personally, I hardly ever see my the ball pythons in my personal collection actually ball up. While it is very common to find a ball python coiled up in their hide, I would find it odd to find one in a legitimate "ball" within their cage.

TLDR: Everything is probably fine. If your ball python is eating regularly, there is often little to be worried about.

Love the decor ( foliage ) - your snake will love it as well - great job !!




Incidentally , is that a heat lamp / ceramic bulb in the middle of the Viv !?! If it is it really should be moved to one or the other in order to get a decent heat gradient ( warm end , cooler end ) ..

Also those stick-on thermometers are basically useless for taking the temps on the floor of the Viv . Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick ..
