    Does air temperature matter?
Does the air temperature matter in a snake tub when the hot spot is at 90 degrees?
I have a snake rack and the thermostat and temperature gun says the hot spot is at 90 degrees yet the thermometer I stuck on the inside wall of the tub with velcro reads the inside of the tub at room temperature which is about 70 degrees. Does this matter or does the hotspot and air temperature need to be at 90 degrees?

Yes it does. I keep all my ambient temps between 78-82F depending on the room temp. I give everyone a 90F hotspot via flexwatt. 70F is too cold. The coldest i would ever let the ambient get would 75F.
