t-10 temp. woes

Hey everyone, so i finally got my new t-10 up and running with a RHP and herpstat 2, craft paper substrate and a 12" water bowl (shoutout to Mr. Sully). all seems well but i am having a heck of a time getting temps right. it has been running with water in the bowl for about 3 days now. i have the RHP set to 93* my t-stat is showing 89-90 on the hot side with about 80* ambient/cool side but when i check temps with my laser the floor of the hot side is showing 96-98??? also humidity is only 40%.

Any advise?

Where is your thermostat probe placed?

As for humidity, you may consider a different substrate or adding a bowl with some sphagnum moss.

The thermostat dial is just a very rough guide to the ACTUAL temperature ... ideally you should have a thermometer with a wired probe on the warm area and randomly double check with your temp gun then adjust the dial on the thermostat accordingly .

gotcha, i use an acurite thermo and after talking with Sully i think i have a good idea on what to do. i use a fluke 59 max and an exo-terra IR to spot check temps. the thermo probe is in the back corner of the cage on the hot side.

also keep in mind i live in New Mexico and right now it is 94* with about 10% outside so it is a very dry climate here, probably just taking a bit to get up. gonna watch for a few more days and adjust accordingly until i get it where i feel comfortable moving the snake in. plus i want to build something for her to climb on lol

Just drop your thermostat a couple of degrees till you get your hot side right.

Consider using orchid bark ( maybe known as ReptiBark in the US ) as it looks great but more importantly helps keep the humidity up ... you can spray the bark accordingly ..
