Herpstat failing and even letting me know? What!?
Hi! My herpstat has been working great for a couple months until now. I had the settings to pulse, set to 90. The temperatures would go above 100! I have two heat pads connected to one herpstat using a power extension. I checked if the herpstat could take the wattage and it was just fine. What do I do? The probe is between the heat pad and the tub. I measure the heat with a heat gun.

EDIT: By the I meant to put "not even" in the title.

Both uth are reading the same by the heat gun?

How much substrate is over each uth? What is it?

Both are reading around the 92-110 range (which is not what I desire). The substrate is aspen. I have my hognose and BP on it. My hognose has about 3 inches of substrate and my BP has about an inch.

Reduce the substrate over each uth to a 1/4 inch, at most. See where that gets your temps.

Having a thick substrate over a uth can insult and trap heat causing what you're experiencing.

The rest of the tank can have thick substrate without issue.

Thanks! The hotspots are a lot cooler now. I can finally have a peace of mind.

Hey, it was fine for the first day. My ball pythons heat pad is just fine but my hognoses is reaching 100+ degrees. What do I do now? It's completely open.

You buy 2 separate t-stats. Unless everything between both cages is EXACTLY the same, it's a bad idea to run 2 cages off 1 t-stat unless you are talking about racks but those are exactly the same specs and thickness etc.

Not to rip on you but too many people try and 'cheat' and then when it doesnt work, they blame the product. Rule of thumb, 1 t-stat for 1 cage.

Sauzo is correct that both uth need to be identical. If they are you should not have any issues running them as you have them set up. I have some running like that. So if they're the same you have something else going on. My guess would be the one with a tstat probe on it is failing.
