Umbilical cord or something else? (pictures)

This little snake pipped today and I noticed they weren't quite out of the egg yet. When I looked, this giant thing is still attached. I've never seen a snake umbilical cord before so is this it or is this some kind of horrible mutation? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f09fc42735.jpg

Yup, that snake would have probably sat in the egg for several more days while it finished absorbing the rest of it's nutrients through that there passage. Keep it in a small container, on moist paper towels, until it finishes the process. Once done, that gaping hole should be much smaller. A day or two later, the umbilical tissue will shrivel and detach from the "belly button" area. In the future, let them come out of the eggs on their own, much less chance of something going wrong.

Thanks! Yeah I didn't even notice it until I'd taken it out and then I got worried. I tucked it back inside it's egg once I took the pics, I just wanted to make sure something wasn't horribly wrong.

yea i cut eggs but never take a baby out. Always let them crawl out on their own. as said on moist papertowel in a small deli cup and leave him alone till he's done absorbing
