BPs and Bug Spray

Just got home from an outdoor party where I had sprayed myself with bug spray, and that got me thinking - how does my BP react to that smell? I know they have keen senses of smell and things like candles are not a good idea around them.

Is the smell of bug spray harmful? Or is it just unpleasant to him, or is it totally neutral?

Many bug sprays have a cover scent, or they may have citronella. I can't imagine they'd care for the smell very much.

I'd also shower as soon as I got home, but that's because I don't like bug spray on me either. I recognize it's a necessity this time of year though, especially with the ticks and mosquitos as bad as they are.

Also some bug sprays have Deet in them which generally in low doses won't hurt humans, due to our size, but that dose could potentially harm your snakes. I'm not trying to tell you to not use bug sprays I'm just putting out some of the vast useless knowledge that I have accumulated over the years.

Picaridin-based products are likely to be safer, which have studies saying they're OK for dogs (so far). No word on cats and other household pets, but it's a step up from DEET.
