Bioactive Tank Tips

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for BPs in bioactive set ups. I've purchased from The Bio Dude and have enjoyed the products thus far. Some areas that I'd like more information on are:

Cleaning Regiments
BP tank activity

...and anything else you can think of. :)14148

If you have a good clean up crew, you shouldn't have to do much of anything except keep the water clean and feed. Good luck! :gj:

I have one set up but it's for my son's crested gecko. I purchased the kit from the bio dude as well. The gecko seems to enjoy the set up more than he did his previous tub set up with paper towel "substrate". I figured the gecko setup (being the smallest) would be my trial run on how the bioactive setup would do. If it goes well I plan on having all my snakes in bioactive enclosures. I've only had it set up for a little over a week now, so my clean up crew hasn't established yet. Anyway, would love to know how it works out for you. You should start a thread on it.

I've noticed differences in running bioactive in how the snake acts.

I've only had mine going for my bp for about a month. He seems to like to sit out a lot more now. Last night he spent a while sitting on his cork bark with just the end of his tail in his hide and the rest of his body and his face out. He also apparently dug up and knocked over one of the plants one night.

He has pooped in his new tank once so far - I was very pleased to see that it was covered in springtails. I did pick it up, but trusted to the insects to clean up any remnants on the substrate. I mist or water his plants pretty often, other than that I just change his water.

In general, he's seemed more curious and interested in things since being in his new home, but he did also get a size upgrade at the same time.

My BP is a lot more active since he's been in his bioactive set up. He's only been in there for about a month as well but I added a ton of springtails and a good amount of isopods and gave them over a month head start before adding the snake. They seem to do a good job

That is an awesome set up! Is that a drainage layer that you've added? Has that been helpful?

For the most part, I've been witnessing more activity from my 2/3 of my BPs. ButterMac still stays in his hides for most of the night. As long as he's comfy. :) Custard and Sherbie seem to like the different sorts of ground cover. Sherbie also likes to squash plants, lol. She has some new ones in her tank now, though.

I've been wondering if I should buy from the biodude or make my own! Does it seem to work well without the drainage layer?

Also, should I do this in an exo terra type of cage or an Animal Plastics? I'm wondering how humidity works with the plants and ball python
