Some help with heating please!

I'm currently using a 4"l x 5"w Zoo Med Heating Pad with a 16 quart tub. Will it be enough for a 16 quart if placed under it? Also, is it okay to attach the heating pad to a plastic tub with it's adhesive side?

If the UTH takes up about 1/3 of the tub, it's totally fine. It's okay to attach the adhesive side. Make sure you have a thermostat regulating the heat pad!

If you don't have a thermostat, you run the risk of the mat getting too hot and melting the plastic or, worse, burning your snake very badly. Any heating device should have a thermostat to help regulate it. There are some decent ones available through Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/MTPRTC-Contro...ant+thermostat

You need a tstat or at least a dimmer.

Instead of sticking the uth to the tub I would cover the sticky part with foil and then use aluminum foil duct tape to secure it to the tub. This way it can more easily be removed for cleaning or changing tub size without damaging the uth.

Also, a uth is not meant for heating the air and does very little for that.

The size of the uth really just needs to be a bit larger than your coiled snake on top of it. However, 1/3 of the cage floor is the guideline.
