    Snake for an AP T10
    Hi all,

I just had a friend get out of the hobby and I inherited a like new Animal Plastics T10. My snake room has the cages situated in cutouts in the walls and I can modify one area to JUST fit this in by 1/2 inch. I am normally into carpets, I have 4 of them, and I have one Boa. I would normally get another carpet subspecies but I don't know if the 15 inches in height would be enough. My carpets use all of the 20 - 24 inch heights their cage gives them. Are my concerns legitimate? I know AP has a carpet cage that is 15 inches in height but I don't know if that is more for a breeders convenience or that is all they really need. I could get another male Boa I guess or is there another species that you think would interest me knowing that carpets are my prime interest? Woma maybe? The cage would have to more than likely be the snakes "forever home" due to the construction of my snake room and I am doing all the mods I can just to get this thing to fit. Thanks for your opinions.

I'm planning on a T10 for my Woma once he outgrows his half of a divided T8.

I may go that route since I am partial to the Aussies. Womas just seem to be not very plentiful and when you can locate them, they are fairly steep it seems.

A 15" high enclosure could definitely work for a carpet if you wanted to add another. I would almost never advise against a carpet. It doesn't matter to them if they're 6" or 6' off the ground. My carpets are in 12-18" high enclosures and they're just fine. That being said, I think a bull snake or boa would be a nice addition as well. Since you like the Aussie snakes you could also go with an Olive Python. They're amazing snakes to keep but you may need a 6' enclosure down the road.

You could house a male Dumerils boa in it for life as they're not big on climbing.

Thanks for the responses! That is good to know about carpets, all of mine have height. BCR229, I have always loved the look of Dumerils but I have never worked with them. I heard from someone years ago that they were very finicky eaters and my ball pythons "I have 2" are a constant source of irritation to me as the rest of my snakes are garbage disposals and the Balls are just so inconsistent. Are the Dums like that or was I misinformed? Thanks again for the insight.

I have two adult and three sub-adult Dums. The oldest female had been fed only live jumbo rats before I got her. She easily switched to f/t but was a bit trickier to get onto rabbits though I managed it eventually. The other four Dums are garbage disposals that would eat daily if I let them.

My female yearling dumerils is a garbage can too. She eats anything put in front of her and was like that as baby too.

As for caging, you could put a lot of stuff in a T10. I got my 6.5' SD retic, 6.5' BCI and 5.5' sunglow in T10s although they are waiting for their T25s to get here.

Thank you all for the replies. I think I am going to be looking for a dumerils. I have always loved their looks and working with a new species appeals to me. Hearing that I had bad info on the feeding habbits is all I needed. Thanks

You didnt necessarily get bad info. A lot of babies can be picky eaters. Just make sure if you get a baby, it is eating well.
