New snake possible mites

My new ball came today and i found a few small dots in the bag he came in and am worried its mites. I put him on towels to see but so far am worried. Please help me.

Mites are common with new purchases. They become nearly impossible to get rid of and can take over a collection. This is why we have quarantine procedures.

In your prior topic about being worried about Underground Reptiles I told you treating for mites should be done with new arrivals.

First step is treating the shipping container and anything in there aside from the snake as hazardous waste. Triple bag it, get it out of your house, and wipe down anything it touched as well as anything you have touched and the snake has touched.

You will need a mite treatment which should be available at most pet shops. Follow the directions.

Do not introduce the snake to its enclosure, it may well become infested.

Bear in mind that whenever you get a new snake it should go into an enclosure that was pre-treated for mites the day before it arrived. IMO all new snakes have mites until proven otherwise.

Considering where yours came from it's a safe bet yours has mites.

i read not to handle them when you just get them, if i put him in some water would he get stressed or attack me?

You don't need to handle him at all if the enclosure is big enough for a large water bowl. Just fill it halfway and let the snake choose to soak itself.

Please post a picture of the snake and positively determine if it has mites. I have not been in their store for a couple months and I do not want to set foot in there if they have an infestation.

Dark species are not always a sign of mites, some people use wood substrate such as coconut husk, mulch etc and it can leave small black speck in the bag now if those are moving then yes mites are likely.

Either way when receiving a snake no matter where the animal comes from it's always a good practise to pre-treat for mites

UPDATE: I closely inspected him (especially around the face) and saw nothing. I also soaked him in water for 30 mins and saw nothing in the water. I think he is clean and btw he was not the captive breed he was farm breed so he did not come from their store. Do you think he has early stage mites or they were just fuzzies on the bag?

Better to just assume yes, quarantine and treat.

Quality photos would help
