    Hygrometer frustrations
OK, so I thought one of my girls hygrometer was off so I switched them into the others enclosures to see if they were working. They were still acting wonky and didn't seem right.

I went on the Spyder robotics site and ordered 2 of their temp/hygrometes and am running them alongside their old hygrometers. They are reading between 1% to 5% different than the old hygrometers at times and the exact same at others.

So, do I assume that they are working fine? A 5% margin of error is ok? I try to keep them between 55% and 65% when not in shed and 70% to 80% when in shed.

I think it's close enough. I never have luck getting any of my thermometers/hygrometers to agree. If they're in the ballpark that's good enough.

Yeah, less than 5% error is normal.

I spoke with Dion from Spyder about their humidity sensors and he told me they calibrate them with Zikar hygrometers. He advised me to save some money and buy from Zikar. Zikar is good out of the box according to him and Zikar customer service techs.

Tasks everyone. The adults remain at a 5% difference but the baby's is 74% and 82%. Um........ (it's super humid today, so hers shot up but that's almost a 10 degree difference in the same tank.....)

Do you mean these? Is this what everyone else uses?

The ones I bought from Spyder, they said "aren't theirs" they just carry them. So, the new ones I have from Spyder have been calibrated with the zikar ones? (The link in my last response.)

We found a cigar shop in the that has the rectangular Xikar hygrometers, so we will pop by and grab 2.

Popped in the Xikar hygrometers. 60's. The pets tore and spyder robotics ones were off by about 10%!!!!!!

To get the humidity to 70% for her shed, we've soaked some moss and placed it around the doors to her hides, and misted fairly heavily. So, the bedding she's on 99% of the time in her huts is dry but the rest of it is pretty damp. Not wet and dripping, but definitely damp.
