Delay in laying

Hello everyone,

My BP went through a pretty obvious ovulation, and had her post-ov shed.
She hasn't eaten since just before her ovulation, despite being offered weekly. It has been 32 days since she shed. Every few days she will be laying belly up, but doesn't seek the cool side at all. She is always getting as close as possible to the heat lamp, though tank temps are fine. Her body looks fairly swollen on the lower 2/3s, but she's not looking lumpy or anything.

She has bred a few times in the past, and each time has laid on day 27. Just getting a little worried. Anyone have any thoughts?

The 27 day rule isn't set in stone. They can go 21-45 days after ovy. If memory serves me correctly

I believe some one on here had a snake go 51 days after shed before laying. I have a female that went through 2 sheds (prelay) between ovulation and actual eggs. Watch for her to start twisting herself into a pretzel. When she does that she is pushing the eggs down towards her vent for deposit and it usually happens within a day or two of that. Best of luck.

I just had a female lay 38 days after the shed. I was staring to worry too but it seems it was unnecessary as she pushed out 7 good eggs and no slugs.

I have had females go 50+ days after pre-lay, there are a few factors in play such as the animal itself but also temperature, that being said the animal MUST be monitored closely while 50+ days with one female may be ok , 40 + days with another may be trouble requiring intervention.

Be patient and observe your snake.
