    Retic will not eat.
Hey guys, recently (19.04.2017) I have picked up a 3 1/2 month old female reticulated python Tiger het. purple albino
She shed (21.04.2017) I offered her food 2 days later, adult mouse sized rat F/T, she grabbed him and let go, i left her alone but still she didn't eat.
Today i tried once again (25.04.2017) She was showing no interest in the rat whatsoever
30C Hot spot, ambient temp. 25-26C
    60cm x 30cm x 30cm terrarium
    Humidity - 65-70%
What could be the issue ? :(
    Thanks, Jacob

I would assume that the snake just needs to acclimate to its surrounding a little more and should start eating. From what i know retics have a great feeding response, that and the fact the snake is young it should be pounding food. If however it dosent start in a week or two id be worried. I know the retic owners here will have some better and more insightful advice.

You might try a live prey item to generate more of a feeding response to get it started. Mine has only had a few live meals to start it's life and has been slamming f/t for over a year now.

Also, do you know exactly what it was eating before you got it? I'd try offering the same prey that it was eating before you received it, that should help too

Does she have hides to feel secure?

And like JM said, what was the breeder feeding her?

Just let her settle in a week before trying again.

Sounds like a defensive strike if she just bit and let go so she might be scared.

I know Caesar ate within 2 hours of arriving to me but he is a pig. I have never seen a snake that likes to eat more than him hands down.

Give her 2. One on the warm side and one on the cool side. If they can't regulate their temps, they can become cranky and not eat. Snakes will often sacrifice their warm or cool needs in favor of security even if it is detrimental to them. I always give new snakes the same hides on the warm and cool side. Then once they are settled in, you can remove a hide if you want or need more room.
