Hi.
I am a newbie to keeping snakes and I have a concern about my BPs sheds. We have a male and a female that we adopted. Being new to this we didn't have their environmentals very good but over the last 3-4 days we have gotten them under control a little better. Our ambient temp is around 80F and our humidity is betwen 50 and 60%.
Our male's eyes clouded up over the weekend and this evening we noticed some pieces of skin under one of the hides. When we looked, we found that he had only shed from his belly. I took him out and soaked him for about 30 minutes. When I got him out and dried him off some of the additional skin started to come off. I held on to the end of the skin and he started moving away from me. As he did the skin started peeling off and I was able to pull a very large piece from his back, but there is still skin on his "neck" and I can't see where any has come off of his head.
How is the best way to deal with this? When I was pulling the large piece from his back he seemed very anxious, almost like he was in pain. I could still see his pattern on the piece that I pulled off. Is pulling the old skin off of him something I shouldn't do? We have only had them for about two months and don't know their past history although we don't think they were cared for to the standards that I have read about on these forums. They eat pretty good and are very docile. I am concerned about their well being and do not want to hurt them or make them uncomfortable. What is the best way to deal with an incomplete shed?
I would also like to know about water temps when it comes to soaking. I have tried to hit between 85 and 90F. thanks in advance for any replies. I appreciate your help.
