What morph is my new buddy?
    Hi :new: :)

This is my first thread here! I hope to learn a lot from everyone.

I set up a nice, but basic enclosure for a ball python, and picked up my new friend two days ago. Tikal is a male ball python, just over a year old. He eats fantastically already! He was sold to me as an "assorted" BP (some unknown morph or combo of morphs), at a higher price than the normal BPs. He's a handsome fellow, but he looks fairly normal to me. I am brand new to the world of snakes, so it's hard for me to compare him to anything else though. I tried researching a bit online but I haven't found anything obvious. I'll post some pictures and there are more in my gallery. Did I overpay for a "normal" ball python, or does he appear to be some kind of morph? Even if he is a normal guy, I still love him just the same!

    Thanks

    Normal until proven differently.

    Nothing "morph" about it.

Definitely normal, and he looks dehydrated.

Normal, as for overpaying normal male go for about $15 while female go for about $20 at shows.

    Same online + $50/$75 Shipping

Dezoruba, what are the signs of dehydration? The person I got him from did say that he has had some shed issues because he was kept in an enclosure with too low of humidity/inadequate water for a while, so I'm not really surprised. I have a large water bowl and mist the cage daily, so is there anything else I can do? (Hot side is around 85 degrees, cold side is around 79 degrees). Thanks :)

I'll be talking to the pet store about getting the price difference back. :gj:

I say he looks dehydrated because of the way his eye caps are dented in. That can happen due to dehydration or from retained eye caps. Both of which are a result of too low humidity. Id give him one good half hour soak in luke warm water and make sure his humidity stays at least 50% but ideally closer to 70%.

The humidity is steady from 60-70% in the middle of the tank. The cold side has moisture on the glass near the water, so he definitely has a nice humid area.
Thanks for the info on his eyes - I'll take a better look tomorrow. And I'll give him a bath to hopefully get him up to speed.

Update: spoke with the manager at the store I bought Tikal from. Although his phenotype is "normal", he does have some genetics for a morph from one parent. I could care less since I'm not breeding him.
