    100g rat for a 700g BP
I asked for a small rat today, but it looks a little on the large side. My ball python is 700g and I weighed the rat at 100. I calcuted 105g being exactly 15% of her body weight - however, when I look at the feeding charts, it says that the ideal size rat for her weight is around 44-84g. I don't know if I should risk it, as the rat looks a few centimetres larger than her widest part. Thoughts anyone?

Been there, tried feeding an extra jumbo rat to my 748 gram male, long story short he couldn't fight it and ended up exhausted and without a meal. If its live carefully analyze the situation. send pics that have something next to them for size comparison .

That sounds too big. I feed my 6-700g balls 40-50g rats

That's too big. Next time take your scale to the store and weigh the feeder you buy.

Just put the 100 gr feeder in the freezer and go buy another one. It'll keep for a while.

100g is about the size of a medium rat. I think your BP could eat a medium rat that size but a small rat would probably be better.

My 800g female goes apes for medium rats, but she'll eat anything. The two 700g kids are still on small rats. You could try one that big and probably be successful, but I would give her a little extra time to digest.

There is no 10% or 15% rules once they reach 500 grams.

You have to take in consideration that their metabolism slows down and also the sex.

At 700 grams a small rat is more than enough, if you fed too much you will run into some issues such as prolonged fast.

We have a feeding chart in the BP husbandry forum, it will help you.

Remember because they can eat it does not mean they should.

I threw the rat away because it was already defrosting and I don't know how long it will take for her to reach 1000g, probably a while so I don't want it in my freezer for that whole time!

I'll get her a new, smaller one tomorrow. Thanks everyone! :P
