    Cleaning
Just some general question. Right now as a substrate I'm using paper towels. To clean I use chlorhexidine. I use two table spoons per 24 oz of water. Have you guys noticed how it changes color. Is that normal? Does it have a shelf life once mixed with the water? I noticed the first day it was blue then yellow and now back to blue. Also with paper towels if the snakes urniates the whole towel gets covered I check on My snakes daily. So they might be wondering around their piss for about a day. Is that ok? I've thought about switching to aspen in order for them not to roam on their pisss but I'm afraid of some of the horror stories I've heard from aspen. Any suggestions?

Don't know about the cleaner, I use vinegar. As to laying in their pee, I use paper towels, and check tubs at least once daily. Any "floods" are taken care of. I have never had a health problem with this.

No one knows for sure on the shelf-life for diluted chlorhexadine, but it does have one. The chlorhexadine will form precipitates and loses its effectiveness. It's never been determined the rate at which its effectiveness is lost as far as I know. Many people use a week as the diluted mixture's shelf life, but as far as I know, it's pretty arbitrary. Using distilled water and not storing in the light will increase the length of time it is effective for. As far as turning yellow? I've used lots of chlorhexadine and never seen that, so I don't know. It's only ever been blue that I've seen.

I've never used it before. I use bleach. It costs a dollar a gallon and I'm not aware of a shelf life. I don't think there is anything that it won't kill.
