Weighed my snakes for maximum feeding efficiency!
A couple weeks ago I decided to weigh all 20 of my snakes and post their weights just above the tubs in my rack. I didn't realize how much that info would come in handy until feeding day. Now when I euthanize one of my rats or mice I can quickly glance at my snakes and figure out which one I can feed as close as 10% of their body weight without going over. Since I started doing this I cut my feeding down from every 5 days to every 7 days.
And I think I was feeding rodents to some of my snakes that were above the 10% max, probably why they wouldn't eat some times. Now I just quickly weigh the rodent and glance at my rack and pick out the perfect snake. It's really helpful, especially since I have a huge variation in snake weights, from small baby California King snakes, to ball pythons of various ages and sizes, all the way up to my 12 pound retic! I actually didn't weigh my two reticulate pythons, they are my garbage disposals and get all the leftovers anyway LOL. And the biggest rat isn't too big for my big retic girl.
