Tub design help

Hi all, I need some advice and what better place to ask. I'm in the process of acquiring my second ball python and have decided in putting her in a tub in a cabinet. I am trying to figure out a way to put a clear piece of plastic or something on the front to have a little viewing area for her. My kids love to look at our coral glow make in his tank and want to do this with a tub. I'll be cutting out a circular hole on the top for a heat lamp as our house usually runs cold in the winter and it will have a uth on the bottom. I've searched the net and can't find any help. Any suggestions are appreciated, thank you!

I would just use a clear plastic tub rather than an opaque one.

Also forget using the heat lamp, they get hot enough to melt/burn plastic and the fumes from that are dangerous. Use two UTH's, one set at 90*F for the warm side, the other set at 82*F for the "cool" side. With a snug hide over each your snake will be plenty warm.

You could get a tub like this...

Excellent quality, great size if you clutter it up enough. Nice clear plastic, and being just a bit higher then most other tubs, your kids will have plenty of visibility.
It has a far more secure top then many other tubs, there will be no Ball Pythons loose (of course you need to add air holes with a solder iron)

Then, you can insulate it, it will help keep colder air from getting in, and also provide your Ball Python with much needed privacy. While leaving the side "open" for viewing.

Originally I had the heat tape (from reptile basics) attached to the tub with electrical tape and the probe was taped to the heat tape. But later I decided that made taking the tub out (for deep cleaning or whatever else) to difficult, because you would have to pull the cables out with it, etc.

So I took the heat tape off and taped it to the styrofoam instead, so that the tub just "sits" on it. The probe I actually put under the heat tape, so its stuck between the styrofoam (with conforms to it) and the heat tape. Cables still go out through the holes in the back, but now the tub can easily be lifted out and put back in. My temps are perfect and holding well, and good privacy.

My tub is a different one, though, the "shorter" one typically used in racks. I have a Blood Python in it, so no need for the height. I just saw these tubs I linked you to at Target and thought to myself, wow, so perfect for a Ball Python if you want to "see" it a bit more and add a bit of decor...while being far better then a glass tank. Remember the air holes, though, because these tubs are airtight. ;)

I've been thinking, one could also "decorate" the outside of the styrofoam with a nice jungle design wall paper or something like that.
Or wood grain vinyl.

Or just go ahead and build a wood surround.

Let me know how you like the tub from Target, I've only seen it online, but really like the dimensions and clarity of it, wonder what it looks like all set up ;)

So I went to target and the tubs that are completely airtight don't have as much room. They were more tall than long so I went with a stairlight. I'll post pics of my design this weekend
