Did you know that Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad owned Two Albino Burms?!!
i remember watching late night TV a few months back. Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad (aka Aaron Paul IRL) was on, they talked about Jack Hannah and how he sometimes brings animals onto TV for show and tell. Jesse then admitted that impulsively he bought 2 baby Albino Burmese Pythons once. check it out:

he claims that it was a buy one, get one free deal, had them for 1.5-2years, they "roamed" around his house, got really big where he had to start feeding them rabbits and chickens and he became "That Guy" i'm assuming being "That Guy" is not a good thing. Anyway he ended up rehoming them.
so i was reminded of this interview and brought it up b/c of this thread here: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...ntify-my-snake just thought i'd share and maybe provoke a discussion.

in my opinion there should be no stigma against someone who realized they're in over their heads and gives up an animal: if you recognize your inability to care for something and go through the effort to ensure it's given to someone who can own it properly, then major props! you're being a responsible owner.
it's those people who provide absolute BARE minimum care just so the animal doesn't die THAT day, those who willfully remain ignorant to an animal's needs, those who keep an animal for only selfish reasons, and those who fight through criticism that i have a problem with.
i hope this is what you meant with opening a discussion. :)

i think they are implying that "That Guy" is the wierdo and how it detracts from attracting a partner.

That's nice .... Love Breaking Bad ...
Maybe a thread listing all the celebs who own snakes would be interesting ..... I'm willing to scour the Internet and upload photos ...

well imo improper care of a python is a definite turn-off for me. :P
however i think it all comes down to the ignorance most people have about snakes. when i first learned you could have a pet snake i was like "whaaaat? google!" it seems like everyone else goes "OMG EW UR GUNA DIE!"

this is interesting when i think about my reply to Ax: for snakes it's ignorance, but with cats it's...too many? but is that because people understand lots of cats = lots of work? or is it that most people with a million cats don't take care of them? hm.
one snake (maybe even one reptile) is enough to be labeled "That Guy." what's the limit to the number of cats before you're labeled "Crazy Cat Lady"?
also if you think about the sexist implication of "Crazy Cat Lady": lots of cats = lots of work which means she pays more attention to her cats than she ever would to a suitor. maybe it's a jealousy thing? but there's definitely no jealousy when it comes to snakes; most are pretty simple to care for. ;)
