Making a 40qt tub suitable for babies
Hello all,
(sorry if this has been posted before)
So, I bought a new rack with 5 40qt tubs. I was wondering if there were any ideas to make these tubs "smaller" for my baby balls. I bought this in the hope that they will grow in the same environment for the rest of their lives. It's a hanging rack system with floating heat tape. My first thought was to put another, smaller bin inside the larger one, but was concerned about the heat passing through an extra layer of plastic. My other thought was to just put in a divider, but the bins come with a water bowl built into it. Should I just add more things to take up space or go with the tub inception? Thanks!

I've never heard a rack described this way. Got a picture so I can see what you're referring to?

It's from these guys. Basically, the tubs hang from the rack with about 1/8" of space between it and the heat tape (which is also raised off the surface).
So, it will be great for the middle tubs, but I may have issues with the bottom tub (temp-wise)

It's like a freedom breeder! This is a pretty common rack style. I used to have a couple. I've also never heard it described as "floating" lol.

I had a feeling that's what you were referring to. I'd just never heard it described in that way. Nice setup!
Re: Making a 40qt tub suitable for babies
Thank you!
My babies are living in a temporary rack (what will be my QT rack in the future). They are living with newspaper as the substrate right now and will be switching to repti-chip with the new rack. Will be a little worried on how to tell when they pee with that.... oh well.
Thanks for the suggestion on just adding a lot of stuff in the tubs. I will probably do the balled up newspaper thing (and keep their hides with them).
And I thought "floating" made is sound fanciful.

I started all mine in 41qt tubs and they did great. Voracious eaters with good temperaments. Like the others said. I just cluttered them up well with the water bowl and 3 or 4 hides. It's not many snakes. But so far 2 royals I got at about 150g and a short tail that was about 100g. My third royal I got at 800g.
