Can you feed a BP two small meals rather than one big one?
Hi guys, I'm new to the world of BPs and I was wondering if it was okay to feed them twice in one day rather than once. The reason I ask is cause I got the terminology wrong and bought some mice/rats the wrong size! He's currently eaten a 12-15g mouse ( not sure but thats the range of the others ) and that was 4 days ago. My question is, can I feed him two 6-8g mice instead of one bigger one? I know you shouldnt feed more than every 5 days, but surely thats okay if its two small bites? I worry with the time it takes to actually swallow it and go down to make room for the second meal :(

Any help would be appreciated, and I'm sure my snake will thank you for being fed properly haha

You sure can! when the snake is done swallowing the first mouse and starts to slither around, offer the second one. I've double fed many many times.

    Yep

I initially bought feeders too small for my girl (small mice), so I fed her two for her second feeding with me -- she struck and swallowed both of them with no fuss. I gave her one at a time obviously, waited a couple minutes after she swallowed the first one comfortably before offering the second

The combined weight of them was probably 20-ish grams and she weighed 161g at the time

Now she's on rat pups and takes one per feeding (weekly)

She's around 181g now so I'm aiming for the 10-15% range in food weight vs her weight...seems to be a good rule of thumb... keeps her satisfied for the week

I have had good luck with tucking the head of the second into the mouth as they are taking the last few wide mouth gulps to get the tail for the first down. we ended up with too many small ones initially.

Don't try to put the second one in her mouth, lol, that is completely unnecessary. If your food source is too small she will gladly take another on her own. Just feed the first one, after it's fully swallowed she'll be in feeder mode and if still hungry probably looking for another as soon as shes ready. Then offer her the second. Watch the fingers, they are usually pretty aggressive feeders at this point lol.

Yes you can mine isn't quite ready for the next size meal I offer him his first rat pup watch him swallow it and once he has re aligned his jaw I wait 5 mins then offer him his second rat pup he's never turned his second one down.

But today is his first day of refusing a meal at all in his 5 month life but he is in the last stages of shed so I'm putting it down to that for now
