    first feed
so this is my first feed with my baby girl (she's a little under 2ft i think and about 4months old)
she'd already been on a f/t rat pups i think so i got a f/t rat from the pet store around the size of her girth and heated it up per the tips and tricks i read on this site and as soon as i did a little zombie dance she grabbed it right away. after she hugged it for a while she tried grabbing it with her mouth at the rats belly area (she was sitting on its head lol) anyway after a few tries she drug it into her hide. its been a little while and i think she's given up or lost interest but its still in her hide with her.

how do i remove the rat without spooking her or setting her off by making her think her prey isn't dead etc?

i plan on just trying again next friday maybe with something a little smaller? although this was the smallest f/t rat they had and I'm pretty sure by looking at her that she could totally eat it. the charts on the sizes of rats are kind of inconsistent so maybe she's used to something smaller? at the store the next smallest thing was a mouse but i assume they "smell" different so i don't know if shed even like that.. the bag said the f/t rat i got was 40g if that helps

thanks in advance, this site is a God-send. so much helpful info (:

Leave it for a couple hours and leave the snake alone. It may still get eaten.

My first feed went a little similarly... she grabbed it right away, but didn't hit a good spot....got it on its side rather than at the head

She dropped it a few times and had to keep adjusting...but she kept persisting and persisting, moving around to find an ideal spot... I was worried for awhile she'd get frustrated and leave it, but luckily she FINALLY got a good hold on the head and swallowed it down

Second feed was similar, but she did a lot better...and actually I fed her two feeders that time because they were two small mice rather than rat pup ... fed her one and let her swallow it down and gave it a few minutes, then she fed again on the second one no problem

Third time though, she wouldn't strike at all and now I realize it's because she's in shed (the next day her eyes were cloudy), so she maybe didn't see it as well or was just too bothered/anxious that I was disturbing her.... but I left the rat pup in her terrarium close to where she went into her hide and then covered around the glass with a towel to give her privacy since she seemed a bit spooked... and when I checked back after 15 or so minutes, she was swallowing it

So...chances are good she may still eat it even if you have to just leave it and walk away ... in my limited experience.

I feed in a separate tub, and one time my lemonblast grabbed the mouse, and tried to eat it from the belly, and legs, never from the head, so when she gave up i grabbed the mouse, did the zombie dance right in front of her face so that she would bite the mouse right on the nose and she did, after that i had a snake with a full belly :)

My first feed went exactly like this. Comical. Without hands thy can't turn the food the correct way obviously lol but the snake will eventually figure it out
