Ball Python or Corn Snake

I am the cusp of getting a snake and i wasn't sure which snake would be a better beginner/intermediate snake but, also a snake i can handle alot. I know that they are both friendly, Although i just want to know which would make a better pet. Thank you for your time.

welcome to the forum! it comes down to what you're looking for in a pet.

ball pythons: more heavy-bodied, slow-going, easy to handle, require a bit more husbandry care than a corn.
corns: slim snakes, curious cruisers when handling and faster-moving, fairly simple husbandry requirements.

i'm sure others will chime in with more detail than i provided, but all-in-all it comes down to what you're looking for. so the question is: what are you looking for? ;)

i find ball pythons more entertaining, but corn snakes are definitely easier to take care of :)

I agree with everyone else, balls are the way to go. The older and bigger they get the more friendly they are and they enjoy being handled more (generally.)

Personally speaking from having kept both I would recommend a corn snake for a beginner they are more tolerant of noob errors and generally are good for handling although they are ridiculously greedy. Balls have more fussy preferences so I would recommend them as a second snake. The looks of a ball python though is better as my late mother said about my first ball python "she looks more snake like", basically they fit better with the mental image of most people's ideas of what a snake should look like.

Everything has really been said already :)

I have both .
The main difference I think is that a Royal ( Ball ) python will happily sit on your lap until YOU get fed up wheras Corns even adults are very inquisitive and hardly ever stay still .

It's like comparing the handling of a Guinnie pig to a hamster :)

Corns can be really quick and always on the go, especially as juveniles. I think BPs are much easier to handle, at least until your corn gets a bit older and bigger. BPs are always chill, but still love to explore, just at their slower, more leisurely pace. I keep both and love them both, but I doubt I'll ever get a juvenile colubrid again.
